The New Yorker email designs

One of the projects I was tasked by The New Yorker was to refresh the marketing design templates. A key part of the acquisition communication was the email.

I updated UI elements to match The New Yorker digital product style guide and refreshed the subscription option components. Instead of picking three different colors for each module I set them up in shades of yellow. Noting the most encompassing subscription in the most saturated shade and the simplest subscription in least saturated color.

Additionally, I introduced new illustrations by Joao Fazenda for each component which also note the level of engagement with the content, in this case represented by a butterfly. The illustrations are a subtle nod to the first cover of The New Yorker and show modern interpretations of the Eustace Tilley character.

In the Dark Season 3 promotional email

The idea for the promotional podcast email was to echo podcast’s landing page and make sure this email stands apart from the regular subscription promotions. The long podcast headline is designed to appear line by line to create tension and draw interest to the heavy subject.

New Yorker App promotional email

In the app’s promotional email the challenge was to showcase a range of features without listing them as bullet points. To make the features clear at a glance and visually dynamic, I combined them with illustrations and app screenshots in alternating color backgrounds.
